House Style, Consistency and Marrying
A house style is a recognisable target rather than a perfectly fixed chemical formula. Blenders adjust proportions when cask stocks vary so the consumer still recognises the intended balance. Consistency therefore involves active judgement, not simply repeating numbers.
After combination, whisky may rest or “marry” before bottling so the mixture integrates. Marrying is not a legal age extension separate from the age of its components; it is a practical production stage intended to support a coherent final profile.
