MODULE 11 · 10 MIN
Reading Labels, Choosing Bottles, Serving and Storage
Read a label in layers: legal category, producer or distillery, ABV, volume, age or vintage, cask wording, bottler and any filtration or colouring statement. Separate regulated facts from marketing language. “Rare”, “small batch” or “handcrafted” may need context before they become useful comparisons.
Choose a bottle by intended experience and budget, not by age alone. Store bottles upright, away from direct sunlight and major temperature swings; whisky does not continue maturing in glass. Serve it in the way that helps you enjoy and understand it, while keeping consumption measured and responsible.
